Comics Character Joining Mortal Kombat 11 as DLC

Earlier this week, a datamine of Mortal Kombat 11 on Nintendo Switch revealed a ton of information about the upcoming fighting game. Fans now know how a lot of the modes will work, how long it will take to unlock Mortal Kombat 11 cosmetics, and most significantly, who the DLC fighters joining the roster are.

While nothing has been confirmed, the roster leak comes from a game file datamine so anyone with Mortal Kombat 11 on Nintendo Switch can see for themselves, until NetherRealm Studios patches the files out. Of the alleged nine characters that will be joining the Mortal Kombat 11 roster as DLC, arguably the most significant is Spawn.

Spawn has been a rumored DLC for Mortal Kombat since the concept of guest characters was first broached by NetherRealm Studios and has been the top of many fans wish lists. And now it seems that Mortal Kombat 11 is finally bringing the Image Comics anti-hero into the world of Raiden and Johnny Cage.

If Spawn and Mortal Kombat fans were paying attention, the character’s addition to the roster as DLC was actually teased/confirmed by Spawn comic creator Todd McFarlane a few months back. When asked whether Spawn would be featured in Mortal Kombat 11, McFarlane said, “I believe he’s on the way.” Initially, some took this as McFarlane teasing fans not unlike Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon likes to, but others assumed the comic book creator let something slip. Now it seems the latter may be true.

Of course, this isn’t Spawn’s first foray into the fighting game world – he was an Xbox exclusive fighter in Soulcalibur 2 – but it may be his most significant. The dark and violent tone of the Spawn comic books fit in well with the character and the abilities given to Spawn through his living suit should make for some interesting fighting game moves.

It’s still possible that the Mortal Kombat 11 DLC character leak is fake, but the evidence supporting it grows by the day. Just recently, some audio files from the game made their way online to confirm that Evil Dead’s Ash Williams is joining the Mortal Kombat 11 roster.

Mortal Kombat 11 releases April 23, 2019 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
