This is How Much Ninja Made in 2018 Playing Fortnite

In 2018, Fortnite reached a status that few games ever do, becoming a full-blown cultural phenomenon and reportedly earning its developers, Epic Games, $3 billion profit in the process. For some, the massive success of the shooter has been a launching pad for their own careers, and it appears that none have been as successful as Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, as the streamer has just revealed his earnings for the year.

Specifically, Blevins indicated in a conversation with CNN that he made close to $10 million in 2018, with his Fortnite-focused Twitch and YouTube channels comprising approximately 70% of his income. When looking at Blevins’ massive viewer base on these two platforms, it is unsurprising that a majority of the content creator’s income comes from them.

On YouTube, Blevins currently has over 20 million subscribers, and almost all of the videos he releases receive multiple million views. Any time a viewer watches an ad preceding one of his YouTube videos, Blevins is entitled to a percentage of the ad revenue, and it is easy to see how quickly that revenue could build with such a strong following.

Similarly, his Twitch page has nearly 400 million total views, and the streaming service has a comparable ad revenue structure. Additionally, nearly 40,000 viewers subscribe to Blevins’ channel, paying $5, $10, or $25 monthly to support the stream and access a number of perks.

Ninja competitive Fortnite reasons

While Twitch takes a portion of these subscriber fees, Blevins has previously indicated that he is sometimes able to make $500,000 a month through Twitch subscribers and YouTube. Still, speaking with CNN, Blevins suggests that Twitch “could do a much better job incentivizing” viewers to subscribe at the more expensive levels.

The rest of Blevins’ earnings come from his sponsors, including Red Bull, Samsung, and Uber Eats. So too, the content creator has begun to pursue clothing and music as revenue streams to supplement the income generated by his gaming channels.

It is clear that Blevins had an exceptional 2018, but the success has not come without an intense commitment to developing his channels and brand. The streamer indicates that he streamed over 4,000 hours of Fortnite last year, and this lead him to being Twitch’s most viewed streamer with a staggering 226.85 million hours watched across his sizable viewer base.

Last night, Blevins rang in the New Year with his own stream from Times Square. While it remains to be seen if Fortnite and the streamer’s popularity will continue through 2019, this act suggests that Blevins is committed to having another standout year.

Fortnite is out now in early access for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
