Mortal Kombat 11 is full of easter eggs and references. Oftentimes these come through in the game’s intro dialogue exchanges or in victory animations, like the Donald Trump reference, for example. Now fans have discovered yet another Mortal Kombat 11 easter egg, with this one referencing Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story.
Toy Story, one of the most successful animation franchises of all time, is one of the last things people would expect to see referenced in Mortal Kombat 11 given the game’s ultra-violent nature. However, it turns out that there is indeed a Toy Story reference in Mortal Kombat 11, and it comes in the form of one of Johnny Cage’s victory videos.
One of Johnny Cage’s victories shows him playing with an action figure version of himself. If players look closely, they can see that the Johnny Cage action figure has “Cassie” written in marker on the bottom of his boot. This is an obvious reference to Woody from Toy Story, who has “Andy” written on the bottom of his boot. This seems to imply that Cassie Cage owned an action figure of her dad when she was growing up, and Johnny has kept it since she’s gotten older.

It’s a small easter egg, but it’s actually rather touching. It’s more evidence that the bond between Johnny Cage and his daughter Cassie is pretty strong, though that’s also apparent by playing through Mortal Kombat 11‘s story mode, which highlights their father/daughter relationship quite a bit.
Moving forward, Mortal Kombat 11 fans may want to pay closer attention to character intros and victories. Character intros in particular seem to have easter eggs for Mortal Kombat fans to uncover, and they also hide important information that provides more background on certain characters. For example, intro dialogue between Jacqui Briggs and Scorpion reveals that Kenshi’s son Takeda is now engaged to Jacqui, a detail that wouldn’t otherwise be known since Takeda isn’t actually in Mortal Kombat 11 outside of some Tower cameo appearances.
Future Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters could very well add more interesting intro dialogue and victory animations, plus there may be even more easter eggs that have yet to be discovered in the MK11 base game, so fans should keep an eye out.
Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
